Dress Code

Southwood Dress Code Policy

At Southwood, we take pride in being a welcoming and progressive private club that respects both tradition and evolving fashion trends. Our diverse membership spans multiple generations and cultural backgrounds, each with its own perspective on appropriate attire. While we honor golf’s longstanding traditions, we also recognize the importance of allowing personal expression within a respectful and well-presented club environment. Our dress code is designed to balance modern style with the etiquette expected at a private golf club, encouraging members and guests to dress appropriately for the setting, activity, and occasion. We encourage a refined blend of classic golf elegance and contemporary fashion while maintaining a polished and tasteful appearance.

Dress Expectations

On the Golf Course & Practice Facilities

Proper golf attire is required at all times on both the golf course and practice facilities. The same dress expectations apply to both areas. If you’re unsure what qualifies, look to the PGA and LPGA Tours for guidance. Our Golf Shop and other retailers showcase modern, stylish, and acceptable golf apparel.

In the Clubhouse

Golf attire is always acceptable, along with functional casual wear that aligns with a private club atmosphere. All hats must be removed indoors, except for religious, cultural, or ceremonial headwear.

Examples of Inappropriate Attire

  • Athletic & Casual Wear - Sweatpants, gym shorts, and leggings or joggers (unless designed for golf). Leggings are not to be worn on their own but may be worn under shorts, skorts or dresses.
  • Inappropriate Tops - Tank tops and sleeveless shirts (for men), graphic t-shirts with large logos, offensive images, or slogans. Tank, halter, strapless, or cropped tops.
  • Shorts & Pants - Shorts, skirts, and skorts should be of an appropriate length to maintain a polished and respectful appearance. When standing or bending over, coverage should be sufficient to ensure a neat and tasteful look. As a general guideline, mid-thigh or longer is recommended. Cargo shorts or pants with oversized pockets are not in keeping with the club’s dress expectations.
  • Denim – Denim of any color is never permitted on the golf course or practice facilities. However, it is allowed in the clubhouse, provided it is in good condition and free from rips, tears, or holes, as distressed denim is not in keeping with private club attire.
  • Headwear Indoors – Baseball/Golf style caps, visors, or casual hats worn inside the clubhouse (except for religious, cultural, or ceremonial reasons).

We trust that all members and guests will make choices that reflect Southwood’s commitment to both tradition and progress. If ever in doubt, we encourage you to reach out to our Management Team for guidance. Please use good judgment in keeping with the club’s atmosphere. Thank you for helping us maintain the warm and respectful environment that makes Southwood special.
